BHUTAKESI

This medicinal plant, known as Bhutakeshi, is native to India and is typically found in the Himalayan region at high altitudes. In the field of Ayurveda, the rhizomatic roots and fruits of the plant are utilized for their medicinal properties. The roots, which are covered in hair-like fibers, give the plant its name, Bhutakeshi. The roots of Selinum vaginatum have been found to have hypotensive, analgesic, and nervine sedative effects. Interestingly, the roots of Selinum vaginatum closely resemble the roots of another plant called Nardostachys jatamansi, not only in their external morphological characteristics but also in their distinct odor. Because of these similarities, the roots of S. vaginatum are sometimes used as a substitute for Jatamansi (N. jatamansi rhizome). Research suggests that both plants possess unique medicinal properties. Bhutakeshi is commonly employed in the treatment of high blood pressure, sleep disorders, and mental health conditions. It has also been indicated for use in neurological disorders such as epilepsy, hysteria, syncope, convulsions, and mental weakness.
